Theater and School for the Preforming Arts
The Theater for the Performing Arts sits in the downtown core of Halifax Nova Scotia. This project was developed using a series of design exercises that involve representational drawings and models. (1) The first drawing was my initial reactions to the site and the program. I was exploring the separation between theater and office. (2) The second drawing is a memory drawing of the site. From this drawing I discovered that there was a succession of fenced in green spaces with built elements placed within them. These spaces were green but not open to the public. The only break in this succession was the site for the theater. I decided to reclaim the site for public use. The school and administration building sit below ground within a labyrinth of brick and cobblestone while the theater is suspended above.
