Arène de Lutèce Visitors Center
Arène de Lutèce is a Roman amphitheater in Paris France that was rediscovered in the 1860’s and turned into a public park. Our task was to design a visitor’s centre that explained the history of the site and dealt with different levels of transparency. Like many parks in Paris it is full of life and activity throughout the day. While walking around the park I noticed a series of moments that corresponded with foliage, which created shade and partial protection from the elements. I then began to study the relationship between this park and other parks in Paris. I used this study to create a Paris parks Voronoi diagram. I then used the Voronoi pattern to create a vine canopy that enclosed the individual building masses.
